The classic tale of the Gruffalo is brought to life at London’s Lyric Theatre. The humorous adaptation of Julia Donaldson’s much-loved book, is a wonderful treat for Gruffalo fans. Diehard little fans arrive eagerly, clutching their Gruffalo soft toys, with books in hand and wearing Gruffalo t-shirts. There’s a real buzz in the audience, almost in equal measure from both the children and parents. If like us, you have been reading this story almost every bedtime for the last 6 years, you won’t want to miss this spectacular performance.

If you haven’t read the Gruffalo- where have you been? It’s a remarkable tale of a terrified mouse, wittingly outsmarting predators in the deep, dark wood by inventing tales of an outlandish Gruffalo. When the Gruffalo turns out to be real, the cunning mouse finds a way to handle this twist too. The Tall Stories performance is lively and engaging, with actors bringing an infectious energy to the stage. The audience can be heard echoing the favourite tale, and you can see the sheer delight on children’s faces, as they are invited to join in with mouse, to roar on cue.
The songs are catchy, and the costumes are brilliant, especially the snazzy snake’s. If you’re looking for a family-friendly day out, “The Gruffalo” at the Lyric Theatre is the perfect choice. The Gruffalo has A list celebratory status in a room full of children, so you can imagine the little one’s excitement when we were invited to enjoy a cake with the Gruffalo and cast after the show.
If you are looking for special birthday treat for a child, this is definitely makes for a memorable afternoon, and is not to be missed. A trip to the theatre is also perfect to keep the kids entertained in the holidays!
