Set amongst the idyllic countryside, Dewsall Court is an exclusive use venue, that’s usually by invitation only, for weddings, and celebrations. Fortunately, a few times a year it’s an open house, hosting Hereford’s most talked about dinner party. Dinner Parties at Dewsall Court are a novel culinary experience, frequented by top chefs preparing bespoke, four course menus. It’s no wonder foodies from all over the country flock to Hereford, for this unique dining experience. November’s supper club, saw 2014’s Masterchef winner, Ping Coombes showcase a Malaysian feast.
Dewsall Court dates back to 1644 and the property has been restored to it’s former glory. There’s a truly historic feel throughout the house, which has been elegantly preserved. From the moment you walk in, one’s immersed into the traditional, quintessentially British manor house. Crackling can be heard from the warm log fires. It’s ever so homely and welcoming.
The dinner party began with zesty, citrus, kumquat infused tropical cocktails in the library. Sinking into the cosy sofa, beside the glowing fireplace, evokes wonder. One can’t help but try to imagine, who may have once sat here, reading the leather bound books by the warm fire.
Celebrity chef, Ping Coombes, mingled with guests, before sneaking back to the kitchen to continue preparing a feast. Ushered into the orangery-style conservatory, the long table was adorned with flickering candles, and fit for a royal banquet.
The starter of chargrilled chicken, crispy duck egg, kohlrabi and refreshing apple slaw, served on a bed of coarse peanut sauce was just divine.
The intimate, dining experience saw Ping, topping up plates with her hearty Malaysian mutton curry, served with turmeric rice, topped with chargrilled spring onions, pickled shallots and green chillies. Ping sharing her passion for food, and inspiration, which all added to the charm of the evening. Many of the guests at the supper club came as couples or small groups, but the buzz around the table felt like a gathering of friends, brought together by great food.
Ping recommended the fragrant lychee and kaffir lime granite, was best savoured with a cheeky smidgen of vodka, as a prelude to dessert.
The generous trio of desserts included a satisfying warm, gooey chocolate brownie, with a banana spring roll, and a creamy peanut butter mousse.
After a fabulous feast. we couldn’t wait to retire to the dreamy Dewsall Suite. The two bedroom suite was luxurious, stylish, and elegant. The exposed wooden beams added to the rustic feel. The giant, gorgeous wooden trunk at the foot of the bed was an impressive statement feature. Imagine the delight, on finding a remote control to the treasure chest, that saw the top elevate slowly, and a television appear. This unexpected gadget was just brilliant. And it’s impossible to resist the inviting, enormous cast iron bath tub.
Waking to birds chirping, and the breath-taking views of dewy meadows was truly magnificent.
The locally sourced, English breakfast was enjoyed in the sun filled conservatory, overlooking the charming gardens.
Dinner Parties at Dewsall are a memorable dining experience, perfect to mark a special celebration or to be enjoyed with friends. December’s party is Furs, fires and ice and really not to be missed.
