Center Parcs, Woburn Forest

A holiday usually consists of sun, sea, sand, and sipping mojitos by a tropical beach on the other side of the world at a five star resort. So when we booked a summer break in England, we could only cross our fingers and hope for the best. However we were pleasantly surprised by Center Parcs, Woburn Forest. As you drive in, you are immersed in woodland and momentarily forget which country you are in. Surrounded by forest and log cabins there’s a real American feel to it.

The lodges are beautifully equipped and ergonomically designed. Amongst the wilderness there were so many activities available we were slightly overwhelmed. With so much to do and not enough time we mapped out as many activities as we could.

The swimming area is warm and tropical, with slides and flumes not for the faint hearted. The best part- swimming outside and then rather unsuspectingly ending up whizzing through crazy loops, bends and slides, finding yourself racing through and losing yourself in the rapids.

We could not leave without trying laser combat, and despite the wind, rain and mud it was an exhilarating experience. Armed with what felt like a machine gun, dodging lasers, hiding behind sheds was more challenging than one would expect. Logistics discussed, strategies in place to outsmart the opponents, only to find you were injured before you left the barrack. Great for team building, with the opportunity to go wild at the end and attack your own. With an hour and half of running around, squelching in mud we built up quite an appetite.

The mouthwatering pancakes were a welcome treat at Pancake House. Cookie dough pancakes with Oreos, caramel sauce and ice cream are not to be missed.

With amazing restaurants, endless activities and sensational service, it was a weekend to remember and most definitely somewhere we will be frequenting.
