Recipe: Nutella Chocolate Chip Cupcakes

If you are looking for the perfect chocolate chip cupcake recipe look no further.It’s moist and chocolatey and moreish. Coffee is the key ingredient to bringing out the chocolatey flavour in the cake without there being any taste of coffee.




125g self raising flour

1/4 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon teaspoon salt

150 golden caster sugar 

75g dark brown muscovado sugar

1 egg

75ml yoghurt

40ml vegetable oil

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

120ml boiling water

50g cocoa powder

1tsp coffee

150g chocolate chips  – mix of white and milk

Nutella Buttercream

140g Unsalted Butter

250g Icing Sugaer

3tbsp Nutella

Makes 12 cupcakes

Cooking Time: 17mins

Oven Temperature 170*C fan 


  1. Pre heat oven to 170 degree Celsius (fan oven).
  2. Mix boiling water with cocoa and coffee and leave to cool
  3. Mix rest of the dry ingredients
  4. Mix all the other wet ingredients 
  5. Combine all the wet and dry ingredients and stir.
  6. Divide mixture into 12 cupcake cases.
  7. Put mix of white and milk chocolate chips on top
  8. Bake for 17 minutes. 
  9. Mix icing sugar, butter and Nutella until light and fluffy.
  10. Cool on a rack before decorating in buttercream.
