The Burj Al Arab is a landmark in Dubai. As the only seven star hotel in the world, it is pretty spectacular standing proud on it’s very own man made island in Jumeirah Beach.
If you were anywhere else, one might say all that glitters is not gold, but at The Burj Al Arab it is 22k gold. The dancing fountains, the giant fish tanks and gold gilded pillars are really to be marvelled over. Arrive by helicopter on the heli pad, and have a butler to serve, your every whim.
The fine dining restaurant, Al Mahara is really something special. It’s just as over the top and indulgent as one might expect, with shark filled aquariums, and apple juice sprinkled with 24k gold flakes. It’s a slightly surreal experience as you almost lose all concept of reality and discover what luxury really means. It’s truly mesmerising. A dining experience really like no other, that has to be experience to be believed. It’s the restaurant you would pick to impress, for a memorable proposal, an anniversary or iconic birthday.
The aquarium in the centre of the restaurant means wherever you sit you will enjoy a perfect view. The tables are well spaced out you will feel like you have the restaurant to yourself.
The bread rolls were flaky and buttery and croissant like, and just melted in the mouth.
The amuse bouche of pumpkin soup was cooling, creamy and refreshing with great anticipation of the coming courses.
The seafood platter included shrimps, with a unique nicoise salad, with curls of melon.
The lemon posset that came before the main dessert was a perfect blend of vanilla bean and sharp citrus.
The chocolatey dessert topped with shavings on chocolate ice cream was just the perfect end to a memorable evening followed by a selection of petit fours.
It’s a once in a lifetime type restaurant, but it is really worth that trip. It’s a place to make unforgettable memories and chuckle over the audacity of sprinkling gold in the drinks.
