Afternoon tea is a time honoured British tradition that’s always a lovely way to mark a special celebration. The decadent afternoon tea at The Guardsman is perfect for any occasion. The Guardsman Hotel is a discreet, luxury, boutique five star hotel tucked away, with a prime location, just a short walk from Buckingham Palace and St Jame’s Park. It’s a beautiful hotel and the afternoon tea can be enjoyed in the plush Drawing room.
Afternoon tea is also served downstairs, in the elegant restaurant, that is usually reserved exclusively for hotel guests.
The Guardsman’s Royal Parks inspired afternoon tea and Wimbledon themed afternoon teas, are evidently created with passion and attention to detail. It’s a sumptuous spread, with some playful twists on a traditional afternoon tea, which are sure to delight. We were fortunate to try the signature desserts from both themed afternoon teas, and they are truly wonderful.
The afternoon tea was a journey of flavours, which started with the delectable finger sandwiches, that included Burford brown egg mimosa and rocket mayonnaise served on vibrant turmeric loaf through to Goldstein Scottish salmon, cream cheese and lemon butter on sourdough. These were served alongside the generously overflowing rolls of truffled chicken, which were absolutely divine.
The patisserie selection is equally irresistible, featuring delights including the delicate Raspberry chocolate rose which was a firm favourite. There was a classic a raspberry pistachio and Chantilly cream tart, alongside a meticulously assembled colourful Toadstool. The tennis balls were packed full of cream cake. The freshly baked fruit and plain scones were served warm, as one would expect, with Dorset clotted cream and preserves.
The indulgent afternoon tea is served with Canton Tea, known to be one of the world’s finest. Most of their teas are beyond organic; some are biodynamic and several can be traced back to abandoned tea farms where the plants now grow wild. Others are from ancient tea trees in the forests of Yunnan and Vietnam.
The Guardsman’s Afternoon Tea is reasonably priced at just £45 per person, inclusive of a glass of Perrier-Jouët Grand Brut Champagne. There are Vegetarian, Vegan and Gluten-free menus available and it’s available to book from Wednesday to Sunday from noon until 5 pm. The afternoon tea at The Guardsman Hotel is really charming, with excellent service, and we really can’t wait to go back.
